The Fuels-C consortium met virtually on the 10th and 11th of December, for the 6 Month General Assembly. The partners discussed the project’s progress so far and what is next for 2025
An overview of the technical progress and next steps
WP 2
FACSA, supported by LEITAT, VITO, CEA, UdG and BER, is preparing the first deliverable of this work package
The aim is to map the renewable biogenic feedstocks for biofuels productions in four European regions, which have already been selected:
- Northwest Spain
- Centre Poland
- Île-de-France
- Apulia – Italy
WP2 will continue with the selection of the feedstocks and their assessment regarding availability, composition and characteristics, among other factors
WP3
The first three tasks of the work package are in progress, with experiments conducted for the production of biofuels for road transport:
- Production of syngas through gasification of organic waste (CEA)
- Production of formic acid through co-electrolysis of CO2 and H2O (VITO)
- Production of ethanol through bio-electrosynthesis of CO2 or syngas (UdG)
Scientific output is now available
Electrochemical CO2 Reduction: Commercial Innovations and Prospects, published in ChemElectroChem
WP4
LEITAT has begun the design and manufacturing of lab scale reactors for maritime fuels production and the optimization of the process to produce renewable methane
The next step for this WP is to select and collect feedstocks for renewable methane and ammonium production. It is predicted that the reactor design and manufacturing will be completed in May 2025
WP7
MAGCIR established the project’s visual identity, the communication channels and the C&D strategy. ISLE developed the Fuels-C IPR Management and Exploitation Plan
WP7 will continue with Stakeholders Mapping activities
In 2025, Fuels-C will have two main events: a Symposium and a Webinar, to showcase the project’s results and to discuss the role of biofuels in the EU
